  • Which partner universities does h_da have? (decision making)

You can get an overview about our partners on our interactive worlmap.
You can e.g. filter by department.
For the overseas regions, there are sometimes cooperations that are open to all departments. For Erasmus+, the cooperations are department-specific. The departmental coordinator of your department can give you an academic recommendation for partner universities.

  • I can't find a partner university in the database that suits me and my studies. What can I do? (decision making)

In this case, you can go to a university of your choice as a so-called freemover. Please note the organisational effort and the possible tuition fees. Another option would be to go through an external provider such as GOstralia!GOzealand, AsiaExchange or College Contact.

  • When are office hours at the International Office? (decision making)

Please check our (online) office hours on our website and in the Moodle course „Auslandsaufenthalte für Studierende” (German).

  • Do I have to pay tuition fees at the partner University? (decison making)

If you go to a partner university (exchange) in the Erasmus+ or overseas region, you do not have to pay tuition fees. If you go to a so-called "Study Abroad Partner", you will pay tuition fees but receive a discount of approximately 10%. More information can be found in the database.

If you plan to stay at a non-partner university (also known as study on your own or freemover), you will usually have to pay tuition fees. Check with the university of your choice in good time. The DAAD scholarship HAW.International offers the possibility of a subsidy.

  • What financial support is available for Erasmus+ and overseas study visits? (decision making)

If you go to an Erasmus+ partner university, the stay is linked to an Erasmus+ scholarship. If you are planning a semester abroad overseas, you can apply for different scholarships separately, such as DAAD PROMOS or DAAD HAW.International. Erasmus+ funding and also DAAD scholarships can usually be combined with Auslands-BAföG.

  • What is the application procedure for self-organized stays (freemovers)?

In this case, please refer to the website of the respective university abroad for the specific application procedures, deadlines and documents. Especially in Europe, it makes sense to first ask whether the university accepts "freemovers".

If you go through an agency such as College Contact, you will receive all the necessary information from the respective provider.

In any case, an internal registration on  MoveOn is required BEFORE the respective stay.

  • What application documents do I need for the partner university? (application process)

First you need to register in the portal MoveOn by the internal deadline. You will receive feedback on your internal application within 6-8 weeks. If you are accepted, you will also receive an email from us with detailed information on the application deadline and the documents to be submitted as well as further information. If you do not get a place at your chosen university, you can enquire about remaining places.

  • Where do I submit my application documents: the International Office of the h_da or that of the partner university? (application)

First of all, you need to register on the h_da portal MoveOn. This will generate a registration/application PDF, which you must get signed by your department and submit to the International Office of the h_da. Make sure that you have submitted the internal application by 15.07. (summer semester), 25.11. (winter semester USA) or 31.01. (winter semester all other regions). You will receive feedback on your internal application within 6-8 weeks after the internal deadline. If you are accepted by the h_da, you will receive an email with further information about the application process directly at the partner university. In the second step, you then apply to the partner university.

  • Where do I have to submit the application documents for a scholarship? (application process)

This varies depending on the scholarship. The following scholarships are awarded by the h_da:
    - Erasmus+ for study visits: automatically linked to studies at a partner university in Europe (Erasmus programme countries).
    - Erasmus+ for internships: Application online via the h_da International Office.
    - DAAD PROMOS (study and internship stays of up to 6 months): The application is made online via MoveOn and is possible twice a year. The funding amount may vary from year to year.
    - University grant for short stays or internships/theses overseas

Scholarships such as HAW.International or DAAD Jahresstipendien must be applied for directly at the DAAD.

Internal application deadline (for nomination by the department as well as registration in the portal MoveOn) at partner universities except USA:

  • Can I apply for a scholarship even though I have not yet been accepted by the host university? (financing)

If you do not have a final acceptance letter at the time of application, you can submit a proof of application (e.g. "Submit-Screenshot" of the online application or nomination confirmation email from the International Office). In this case, you can submit the final acceptance letter later. If you are NOT applying via the h_da, please also inform yourself about this point with the respective scholarship provider.

  • If I do an internship abroad, should I also register on MoveOn? (internship)

Yes, please register on MoveOn beforehand in any case. This is important, for example, for the recognition of your achievements and also so that we can contact you in an emergency.

If you want to apply for the university grant for overseas you have to register your stay on MoveOn as the first step. In the second step, it is possible to fill out the online form for the grant.
