HessenFonds for Refugees

Scholarships for highly qualified refugee scientists, students and doctoral candidates

The Hessian Ministry of Science and the Arts (HMWK) awards scholarships for particularly talented refugee academics, students and doctoral candidates at Hessen's state universities within the framework of the "HessenFonds". The funding is intended for the continuation of an academic career or studies at a state university in Hessen.

The scholarship programme is aimed at persons entitled to asylum and recognised refugees who have not been registered in Germany for more than four years at the time of the start of funding, i.e. the asylum application has been submitted and the continuous stay in Germany has not exceeded five years. Subsequent applications must be justified separately.

Scholarships for Persecuted Refugee Academics and Doctoral Students

The scholarship programme is aimed at outstanding researchers who have been persecuted in their country of origin for political, religious or comparable reasons and who have been accepted as doctoral candidates or have been promised a research or teaching position including supervision by a state university in the state of Hessen. The stay at the Hochschule Darmstadt should take place in the foreseeable future.
