You do not need to apply separately; you activate the scholarship by participating in one of these programmes.

The ExchangePass is funded by the State of Hesse to improve study conditions and the quality of teaching.
Funding is currently available for stays from the winter semester 2025/26 to the summer semester 2027.

Funding modalities

  • Up to 4 months of funding — consisting of a monthly lump sum
  • You can find the monthly rates in the funding table
  • Funding depends on demand and budget; any changes will be announced in good time

You fulfill the following criteria

  • You participate in the h_daExchange-Programme or HessenExchange-Programme. Stays at Study Abroad Partners can also be supported if sufficient budget is available. 
  • You have not yet received ExchangePass funding
  • You do not combine the scholarship with full scholarships or other grants providing a monthly allowance.
    • You may still apply for other scholarships (e.g. DAAD HAW.International).
  • You take and complete at least 12 ECTS at the partner university

How it works

  1. Apply on time internally for your chosen programme.
  2. Once the h_da International Office confirms your place at your chosen university, you apply to the partner university.
  3. In November/June, you will receive an email with your scholarship agreement and further information about the scholarship.
  4. Before your stay: submit your signed scholarship agreement, your finalized Learning Agreement and Acceptance Letter from the partner university. We will then pay 75% of your scholarship. This process applied to stay abroad in spring 2027.
  5. After your return: send your experience report and Transcript of Records to the h_da International Office within 8 weeks of the end of your study period abroad. We will then pay the remaining 25% of your scholarship.
