h_daExchange-Programme

With the h_daExchange programme, you can study tuition-free at more than 100 partner universities outside Europe.

Requirements

  • Enrolled at Hochschule Darmstadt with the intention to graduate

  • Stay abroad starts in at least the 3rd semester (Bachelor)

  • Participation in the h_da Fernweh Day and/or a consultation at the International Office

  • Sufficient language skills in the language of instruction

  • Nomination by the International Coordinator of your department

  • Meeting our internal application deadlines

  • Online application via the MoveON-Portal

Internal Deadlines

All countries (except USA)

  • 31 January – Deadline for stays in the next academic year (see note below).
    Applications open 15 November.

  • 15 July – Late deadline for stays in the next summer semester (January–July).
    Applications open 11 June.


USA

  • 10 November – Deadline for stays in the next academic year.

  • Only a few places are available. The list of available places is sent to the International Coordinators in October.

  • Ask your department for details early.

  • Alternatively, you can apply through the Hessian State Programmes.


What is the academic year?

  • The academic year starts with the winter semester and ends with the summer semester.

  • In some countries, the winter semester already starts in July, August, or September.

  • The summer semester often starts in January, February, or March.

Application Process and Formalities

 

9–12 months before departure

  • Find out about study abroad options online and during consultation hours.

  • Discuss your choice with the International Coordinator in your department.


6–8 months before departure

  • Register in the MoveON portal.

  • Complete the Global Form.

  • Have it signed by your International Coordinator (nomination).

  • Send it by e-mail to global.int@h-da.de.

  • If places are limited: List a second choice in a different non-European country.


About 6 months before departure

  • After the internal deadline, you will get a reply from the International Office within 4–6 weeks.

  • If accepted: You will receive an e-mail with details on how to apply to the partner university.

  • If places are limited: There may be a selection process across departments.

  • If you do not get a place and have no second choice: You will be informed and can apply for remaining places.


3–6 months before departure

  • Apply directly to the partner university.

  • Respect their deadlines and submit all required documents.

  • After their application deadline, it usually takes 6–8 weeks to get a final answer.

  • Once you receive the Acceptance Letter:

    • Apply for your visa

    • Book your flights


After your study abroad

  • Within 8 weeks after your stay, send your experience report by e-mail.


Good to know

  • Most partner universities and scholarship programmes require language skills proven by a DAAD language certificate.
    → Plan to obtain it two semesters before your stay abroad.

  • Use the free online language courses from Rosetta Stone.
